Why Advanced Internal Medicine (AIM)?
WHY
ADVANCED INTERNAL MEDICINE?
The American College of Physicians defines internal medicine as “a discipline focused on the care of adults emphasizing use of the best medical science available in caring for patients in the context of thoughtful, meaningful doctor-patient relationships”.
Internists (internal medicine doctors) are primary care physicians who are specifically trained in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease in adults.
General internists are equipped to deal with whatever problem a patient brings—no matter how common or rare, or how simple or complex.
They are specially trained to solve puzzling diagnostic problems and can handle severe chronic illnesses and situations where several different illnesses may strike at the same time.
Their training uniquely qualifies them to follow patients over the duration of their adult lives and establish long and rewarding personal relationships with their patients. (https://www.acponline.org/about-acp/about-internal-medicine)
